2027 Election: Top Nigerian Lawmaker Mentions Why Obi, Atiku Will Lose to Tinubu
Hon. Yusuf Gagdi, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Navy, has dismissed the chances of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi in the 2027 presidential election. Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Gagdi argued that neither Atiku nor Obi possesses the political capacity or organisational structure required to unseat President Bola Tinubu.
The Plateau State lawmaker stressed that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has far outpaced the opposition in grassroots mobilisation. He questioned what concrete steps the opposition had taken in preparation for 2027, noting that he had observed no meaningful effort from either Atiku or Obi. According to him, the APC’s sustained activities across all regions demonstrate superior preparation.
Gagdi also drew on his personal electoral record to underscore his point. He recalled that Peter Obi failed to secure votes in his constituency across multiple election cycles, while he himself won his seat in 2023 under the APC banner with a margin of 31,000 votes. He described this as fact rather than boast, positioning it as evidence of APC’s strength at the polls.
Beyond electoral numbers, Gagdi criticised opposition figures for exploiting Nigeria’s security and economic challenges for political gain. He argued that instead of offering constructive alternatives, some leaders merely highlight government shortcomings to score political points. In his view, this approach does not translate into genuine capacity to govern.
Meanwhile, cleric Prophet Shedrack Ogboji of Omega Replenishers International Ministry has stirred debate with a prophecy about the 2027 presidential election. He claimed that the person who ultimately wins may be different from the one who is elected, a statement that has sparked conversations online. Ogboji’s prophecy adds to a growing list of spiritual and political predictions surrounding the upcoming polls.
Nigeria’s general elections are scheduled for January 16, 2027, with governorship and state assembly elections to follow on February 6. President Bola Tinubu has declared his intention to seek a second term under the APC. Alongside him, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi remain widely regarded as leading contenders. However, voices like Gagdi’s highlight the ruling party’s confidence in its organisational strength heading into the next cycle.
