Nigeria Secures Seven-Year World Bank Deal
The World Bank has approved a landmark seven-year partnership program with Nigeria worth $1.25 billion, set to run from 2026 to 2032.
At the core of the plan is the Nigeria Actions for Investment and Jobs Acceleration (NAIJA) policy financing, designed to stimulate investment, strengthen key sectors, and create employment opportunities.
The framework outlines ambitious targets: expanding energy access to 32 million Nigerians, improving internet connectivity for 58 million people, and enhancing healthcare and nutrition services for 40 million citizens.
Additionally, the program will support government-led initiatives aimed at boosting agricultural productivity, improving the business climate, and lowering trade barriers — all intended to reinforce Nigeria’s economic foundation and drive sustainable growth.
Beyond immediate infrastructure and social improvements, the partnership is expected to foster long-term resilience by encouraging private sector participation, strengthening institutions, and promoting inclusive growth. Analysts suggest that if effectively implemented, the initiative could significantly reduce poverty levels and position Nigeria as a stronger economic player in Africa.
