Eric Chelle takes on a new coaching role
Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has officially taken on an additional responsibility, stepping in as the new head coach of Nigeria’s U23 team, popularly known as the Dream Team.
The appointment was confirmed during a high-level meeting at the National Sports Commission headquarters in Abuja, attended by NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko, Director-General Bukola Olopade, NFF President Ibrahim Gusau, NFF General Secretary Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, and Chelle himself.
This strategic move is designed to strengthen Nigeria’s football development pipeline, ensuring continuity between the senior national team and the Olympic squad.
Nigeria’s U23 side holds a proud legacy, being the first African nation to win the full set of Olympic medals in men’s football:
- Gold at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics
- Silver at the 2008 Beijing Games
- Bronze at the 2016 Rio Olympics
With Chelle now at the helm of both the Super Eagles and the Dream Team, attention turns to reviving Nigeria’s U23 dominance on the global stage and writing a new chapter in the country’s Olympic football history.
