On Tuesday, Omoyele Sowore, presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), described President Bola Tinubu as a failed traitor to Nigerians.
The statement was made upon his release from Kuje Prison, where he had been temporarily remanded by an Abuja Federal High Court. The court had earlier granted him bail set at N200 million but ordered his return to the correctional facility until the stipulated conditions for his release were met.
Justice Mohammed Umar had approved the bail under stringent terms, requiring two sureties—one being a traditional ruler from Sowore’s home community and the other an Abuja-based property owner—alongside the surrender of his international passport.
Sowore’s remand, which began on June 22, 2026, followed court proceedings related to his public accusation that President Tinubu was a criminal. In a post on X, Sowore asserted that his incarceration was unjust and reaffirmed his resolve, stating that imprisonment only strengthens the determination of those committed to justice.
He concluded with a declaration that the struggle would continue without surrender, using the hashtags #RevolutionNow and #Sowore2027.
