Burna Boy Breaks Spotify Record for African Artist With Most Monthly Listeners
Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Burna Boy has set a new all‑time record on Spotify, becoming the African artist with the highest number of monthly listeners in history.
The Grammy winner recently surpassed South African singer Tyla’s previous record of 46.58 million monthly listeners, climbing to 47.3 million. This achievement cements Burna Boy’s place as the most‑streamed African artist ever on the platform.
His surge in streams has been fueled by the global success of Dai Dai, his FIFA World Cup collaboration with Shakira, which soared to No. 1 on Spotify’s Global Top Songs chart. Burna Boy is now the first African artist to top the chart since Wizkid’s 2016 collaboration with Drake on One Dance.
With his current trajectory, Burna Boy is on course to become the first African artist to reach 50 million monthly listeners on Spotify.
The World Music Awards celebrated the milestone, posting:
“Burna Boy breaks the all‑time record as the African artist with the most monthly listeners in Spotify history (46.84M), surpassing Tyla (46.5M)! 💪🦍🐐👑❤️🔥”
